Sodium Metabisulfite (Anhydrous, Pentahydrate)
Product Overview:
Identification of the substance: disodium disulphite
CAS #: 7681-57-4
Sodium metabisulfite, available in anhydrous and pentahydrate forms, is a reducing agent used across water treatment, food, and leather and textile applications. It is commonly employed for dechlorination in industrial water treatment, neutralizing residual chlorine in process and wastewater streams. Additionally, it serves as a preservative and antioxidant in food and beverage processing, notably in winemaking where it controls oxidation and microbial spoilage during fermentation and aging. Sodium metabisulfite is also utilized in leather and textile bleaching operations to remove unwanted color and prepare materials for dyeing. Furthermore, it finds applications as a biocide additive in upstream oilfield water systems to control bacterial growth.
